CONTEMPORARY GARDENS WITH
A SUSTAINABLE EDGE

Carl will discuss the use of sustainably sourced materials in an urban context, and show examples of eco-friendly practices in small to medium sized landscapes. He will discuss how he uses patterns found in nature as a source of inspiration, and how he integrates organic and permaculture principles into the work he does.

Key considerations for the home gardener, including; managing nitrogen in the soil; which crops like which conditions; spring planting advice; managing pests and diseases; and a look at a Contemporary Sustainable Garden.

Healthy alternatives to chemical spraying - includes companion planting, biological controls.


OCTOBER 22nd - 10.30am-12.30pm
ORGANIC PEST AND DISEASE MANAGEMENT

Healthy alternatives to chemical spraying - includes companion planting, biological controls. Using a mix of theory and practice, we will examine a number of solutions for controlling pests and diseases in the home garden. Topics include companion planting, soil husbandry, physical barriers, biological controls, and organic alternatives to chemical spraying. Max 20, held at the SLC.


OCTOBER 26th - 6.30pm-8.30pm
ORGANIC SOILS

Enliven your vege garden – includes theory on green manure crops, soil minerals, understanding pH. A theory based workshop looking at what contributes to a healthy organic soil, and how to manage this in balance: Topics include minerals, the role of nitrogen, green manure crops, pH, composting, and which vegetables prefer which soil conditions. Held at the SLC.


NOVEMBER 19th - 10.30am-1.30pm
SEED SOWING / MAKE YOUR OWN POTTING MIX

Propagating a budget-savvy garden. We will make organic potting mix-using ingredients easily obtain¬able by the home gardener. We will then examine techniques for ground direct sowing, heat bench propagation, pricking out seedlings, hardening off plants, and transplanting. Participants will take home punnets of their own. Max 20, held at the SLC.
